A $10,000 award supporting Philadelphia-based nonprofits working to advance equity, opportunity, and community empowerment. Rooted in the legacy of Reverend Dr. Leon H. Sullivan, the grant invests in modern, community-centered strategies that foster economic justice, education, and human dignity.

$10,000 per grantee, disbursed upon completion of the grant agreement and submission of required documentation.

Registered nonprofit located in Philadelphia; clear commitment to equity, empowerment, and community-driven impact; in operation at least one year with a consistent record of measurable community engagement; capacity to manage and report on grant funds responsibly; serves North Philadelphia communities (special consideration for zip codes 19121, 19122, 19123, 19125, 19130, 19132, 19133, and 19140); annual revenue does not exceed $250,000.

Projects should align with the mission and values of Rev. Dr. Leon H. Sullivan and the Trust; focus on education, workforce development, economic mobility, or social justice; address a specific community in need with clear, actionable goals; demonstrate a plan for measurable community impact; and show potential for sustainability or scalability beyond the grant period.

Debt repayment; fundraising events; political or lobbying activities; projects unrelated to the organization’s nonprofit mission.

Completed Application Form (provided by LHSCT); Project Description (objectives, activities, and expected outcomes); Itemized Budget using the template on the grant webpage; IRS Determination Letter verifying nonprofit status; most recent 990 or financial statement. Incomplete applications may not be considered.

Yes. Organizations operating online or remotely must still provide a valid Philadelphia mailing address associated with the nonprofit.

A grant review committee evaluates alignment with LHSCT’s mission and Rev. Sullivan’s principles; strength and clarity of the project proposal; demonstrated community impact; financial and operational capacity; and feasibility and sustainability of outcomes.

Approximately 4–6 weeks after the application deadline. All applicants will be notified by email of their application status.

Two installments: $5,000 upon signing the grant agreement, and the second once the grantee attends the 2026 Grantee Award Reception and 2 of 3 Growth + Building Capacity Workshops.

Attend the Grantee Award Reception (mandatory); participate in at least 2 of 3 Growth + Building Capacity Workshops; complete and submit an Interim Report on progress, use of funds, and key outcomes; participate in one Business Site Visit, which may include a visit from LHSCT staff. Failure to meet these requirements may affect disbursement and eligibility for future funding.

Once per calendar year; subsequent funding is not guaranteed. Applications are accepted twice a year, and late applications cannot be considered.

Applications are reviewed for eligibility, project clarity, budget justification, and alignment with program goals. Notice of award or non-award follows the review period; exact timing may depend on application volume.
